John creates music that defies easy categorization. A gifted singer, bassist, and guitarist, he uses jazz, folk, blues, reggae, and world music to paint soundscapes for his well-crafted lyrics. His mastery of the upright and electric basses has also enabled him to create a unique performance style, whether it be with his band or as a solo act.
In a sea of singer-songwriter-guitarists, it wasn't only John's bass that created a distinct impression. His talent for song writing earned him his first "Song of the Year" award from the Northern California Songwriters Association in 1999 with "The Ways of a Woman." He won the award again two years later with "Both a Blessing and a Curse".
